Good Works No. 5

I read D&C 58:26-28.  It said that we should not have to be told to do service.  If we did, we would be considered a slothful servant.  Verse twenty-seven said that we should be "anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will".
Think of ways that a young women, wife, and mother could apply this scripture in her own home:
  • a young women can do her chores and responsibilities at home without being asked, and without complaining.
  • a young woman could do service inside the home such as: doing a sibling's jo or chore, babysitting, or helping a parent with something they need done.
  • A young woman could do service outside the home without it being a mutual activity or Personal Progress requirement
  • A wife can be a support for her husbannd (as a husband should be for his wife)
  • a mother does much service without being asked.  She cooks, cleans, and raises children.  Raising children in a righteous home is service to the mother, her husband, the children, Heavenly Father, and all of the people whom their children might teach, serve and love in the future.

Good Works # 3

I just read Mosiah 18:7-10. It said that if you serve others, and bear one anothers' burdens, that "he may pour out His Spirit more abundantly upon you".  It also said that you will be numbered with those of the first resurrection.  It lets me know that I will get blessings when I serve others.
List three ways I can help bear another's burdens:
1.  I can pray to Heavenly Father that He would make me an instrument in His hands.
2.  I can share my testimony and advice with others.
3.  I can live as a good example so that others can know what to do when they need help.
4.  I can physically do service such as: cleaning the community,  make meals for those in need,  babysit for people who need those services, and use other talents I have when others need help (such as: singing in church, sewing something for someone.)

My attitude changes when i serve.  Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I notice the needs of others, and i can realize how blessed I am.  Also, I get to learn about other people and get to know them.  And, I can feel closer to my Savior because I know that He always did and is doing service.

Today, I sang in church.  I shared my talents, and I did service by helping bring the Spirit into the meeting.  Also, I am making baby hats for babies in orphanages.  And, I befriended girls at girls camp last week who were having hard times, or were lonely.  I know that I did a good job because one of the girls that I got to know thanked me at the end of the week for helping her.  It made me feel very special that she appreciated my friendship and service to her.  Also, at school, church, with my friends, and at home, I always try to be a good example.  I feel so great when I am complemented on this.  It makes me feel like others are appreciating my service, which feels so fantastic.  And, it makes me want to serve even more!!!!

Nauvoo Temple Trip

Our youth group went to Nauvoo and spent the night in the Nauvoo House.  It was amazing!  My favorite part was going to the temple!  The Nauvoo Temple is so beautiful, and I felt the spirit very strongly.  I had such a great time, and was able to become closer to my Savior there.  I truly felt like a princess. There were marble walls, and it made me realize that I was in a castle, which was Heavenly Father's house.  I was an honorary guest there, and was able to participate in the joy and beauty of that castle.
My second favorite part was getting to see the Christus statue in real life.  My favorite thing in the whole world is that statue.  It is so beautiful, and it is the closest hing I know to seeing the Savior.I was talking to a sister missionary about this statue, and I told her about how I've always wanted to sit at it's feet and give this statue a hug.She told me that children would often come and hug the Christus statue.  She then told me about a little child who once sat at the feet of the Christus and pretended to put a band-aid on the nail marks on His feet.  That is so sweet.  It reminds me of becoming as a little child.
The pageant was great, and the pre-pageant fair was amazing.  I had a lot of fun, but my favorite part was the music.  I loved seeing people preform the music of the time.

Carthage was great to visit.  I had been there before, but I was only three years old.  It was much more meaningful to me this time.  It is pretty amazing to walk the same floor and pass through the same doorways as Joseph and Hyrum did.

Individual Worth No. 5

At first, volleyball was hard fo r me because I didn't feel like I was an asset to the team. Team members got mad when I missed hits (granted they had some social anger issues). I always left volleyball feeling dejected.
Then, I decided to ask the Lord for help.  He sent the Holy Ghost to comfort me during games.  I am grateful for this experience.
